Introduction |
Many of our potential patrons don’t know what we do.
We all know that we tend to go to the same places over and over and you think surely I’ve been here saying the same thing enough that that there isn’t anyone who doesn’t know what we can do for them. But each time there is someone who says “Oh, really I didn’t know that you could do that for me”, it may be a new face, but a lot of times it’s someone that you were sure knew what we offered.
Many of us come from the old way of offering Outreach, we used to call it the “If anyone asks” policy. It was kind of like if anyone asks, we can do this, but for the most part we didn’t advertise that we did this. Times have changed and we need to start telling what we offer and changing the way libraries think of outreach patrons.
Marketing is not new to libraries, but focusing specifically on marketing outreach has become a bigger priority. The people we serve through outreach need to know what we have available. We need to target areas that we know our patrons frequent. This website offers information about all the different ways that we can market our services and find new patrons.
Due to the type of patron’s we serve, we need to continually add new patrons to replace patrons that we loose. Marketing can help us grow and maintain our patron base.
Marketing is not something we do once in a while it is something we do everyday.
