Programs to Community Groups

Present informational programs to community groups. These groups are looking for people to present programs and will be glad to give you time. Senior Centers and Senior Groups are always looking for speakers that serve seniors. Think about places where you might have up and coming seniors, the ones who don’t need us now, but will in the future. (AARP, Veterans groups)

Visit home healthcare agencies. Most of these places have staff days of their own and are looking for informative speakers for their event. Informing the home health care workers is the best way to have contact with homebound patrons. Present a power point presentation that points out how reading can add to the quality of life of their clients. Take plenty of home bound applications and talking book applications. Ask that the home health care worker pass them out to their clients on their next visit. Make sure that you explain how each program works so that they can explain it well to their clients. In the same category visit rehab locations, visiting nurse associations and Goodwill.

Don’t forget about civic groups. They are also usually looking for someone to speak for a few minutes at their meetings. Research what groups and clubs are active in your area and call them to set up a time to talk about Outreach services. Again you won’t believe how many people have no idea that you do what you do. Red Hat Groups are very popular right now and I’m sure they would be happy to have you speak at their meeting.
