Outreach Mailbox Library Services or Mail A Book

This service is provided to patron’s who cannot physically visit the library due to health or lack of transportation. Patron’s receive a catalog from which to order titles. Their books are mailed to them from OVAL. (We contract with them to have them take care of this service for us). Their titles are sent through the mail to their home and when they are done with the titles they simply turn over the postage card and leave them in their mailbox. This service is free of charge. They will need to fill out the application for “Outreach Mailbox Library”, which is located in your forms folder. Once the application is completed they can either mail it to the attention of the Extension Services Coordinator or it can be dropped off at the desk. Applications should be put on the Extension Services shelf in the workroom.

Service to Senior Centers, Retirement Homes and Nursing Homes

We deliver to all area nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior apartments on a monthly basis. Please give patron’s my name and extension to set up delivery or take their number and I will call them. We make lobby stops at Maple Terrace Apartments, Senior Center, Cedar Hills Apartments, Evergreen Villiage, Appletree Homes, and the Singer Center once a month. We deliver books, BOT, CD, DVD and Videos. We provide programs to these locations on a rotating basis.

Talking Book Services

This service is for patron’s with vision impairment or who are unable to hold a book. We are lending agency for the State Library. We are able to lend talking book machines and set patrons up to have tapes delivered to their homes. This is a free services provided through the Library for the Blind and Physcially Handicapped. All items are mailed free of charge to the patron and there is no return postage required. Talking book machines will play tapes from the Library for the Blind and will also play our tapes. Individuals who are interested in the plan need to fill out the Talking Book Application, which is located in your forms folder. They may fill out the form and return it to anyone at the desk. The completed form should be put on the Extension Service Shelf and the patron should be told that they will be contacted to so that we can answer any questions and drop off their machine.

Talking book patrons can return defective machines to the circ desk. There is a supply of new machines located on the back shelf. Each machine has a slip that needs to be filled out with the patron’s name, the reason for returning the machine and the number of the machine lent out. Tape the slip to the old machine and place on the Extension Services shelf.

Bi Folkal Kits

BiFolkal Kits are located in the Outreach Office. These kits can be loaned to anyone with a card for 2 weeks. Generally it is Activity personnel from nursing homes that request the kits. I have a listing of all the kits we own, if anyone need to know the specific titles. BiFolkal Kits are kits that include program ideas, props, a video or slideshow, cassettes and song books that are geared toward seniors.
